de Moraes, Lisa. "NBS fills in the margins with notes for new strategy." The Washington Post. 23 Oct. 2009. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/22/AR2009102204314.html
The new NBC chairman, Jeff Gaspin, has told us that NBC will no longer program to profit margins. This means that NBC won't air shows that are really cheap to produce and can make a profit margin no matter how bad the ratings are. These shows are shows like "The Jay Leno Show" or other late night programing that are cheap to produce and can make a profit no matter what. In the article, it also talks about other shows that have been kept on the air because they produce profit margins. Shows like "Dateline" have been kicking shows off the air because they can produce profit margins. It also talks about how a few years ago, profit margining was called "TV 2.0"
I think this is a really good idea if this plan actaully goes through but lets be honest, TV is a money making machine. I don't think that they'll be able to do this because they won't make enough money to keep other higher budget shows on the air. I think instead of cutting these "profit margin" shows, they should just cut the crappy shows that they air and find shows that are better and more enjoyable.
