Kageyama, Yuri. "Sony signs 3-D video deal for 2010 World Cup." Yahoo. 3 Dec 2009. http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ap-japan-sony-3-dworldcup
The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be shown in 3-D. Sony has just recently signed a deal with FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) that will allow the Japanese electronics and entertainment company to record up to 25 games in 3-D. This will allow viewers to get a more realistic experience while watching the game. The viewers will have to wear special 3-D glasses in order to experience the 3-D effect; however, manufacturers are currently working to make these effects visible without glasses.
I think that this is really cool because everything in 3-D tends to be better than things in 2-D. I am looking forward to the FIFA World Cup now for 2 reasons, to see who wins and to see who wins in 3-D. This just shows how far our society has advanced that now we are able to watch things in 3-D. Just some 70 years ago, we were just experiencing the greatness of black and white television. I hope that everyone will take this opportunity to view history in the making by watching the 2010 World Cup in 3-D.

Twitter eyes acquisitions, sees making money in 2010
Scheer, Steven. "Twitter eyes acquisitions, sees making money in 2010." Reuters. 21 Nov 2009. http://www.reuters.com/article/innovationNews/idUSTRE5AN1TB20091124
Twitter is hoping that it will be able to produce more revenue by 2010 by unique forms of advertising. As of yet, these plans have not been explained in detail but Stone has said that the advertising will be "non-traditional." In September, Twitter received a new round of funding from investors including mutual fund giant T. Rowe Price and private equity firm Insight Venture Partners. According to a person familiar with the matter, the new funds totaled $100 million, theoretically valuing the company at $1 billion.
I think this is good that the social networking giant Twitter is finally going to be making money. By doing so, they will be able to survive against competitors like Facebook and Myspace. Many people prefer to use Twitter over its competitors for its fun atmosphere. People can tweet or whatever it is called with each other. I have personally never have used Twitter, but their idea is sure to last for years to come as it continues to grow.

Disney to rebrand sports complex as ESPN
Klayman, Ben. "Disney to rebrand sports complex as ESPN." Reuters. 5 Nov. 2009. http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=3257627124099125111
Walt Disney Co's sports complex in central Florida will have a new name come February 2010. It will be renamed after its ESPN unit. The name will be changed to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The whole point of this name change is "to get closer to the fan and in particular they want to get closer to the youth athlete." The hope of the name change is to get athletes to become fans of ESPN at a young age and have their families visit the Disney parks and buy their merchandise.
I think this is good that Disney is changing the name of the sport complex because it gives the complex a more fitting name. Before, the building was named after Disney, which really does not have anything to do with sports. Now that the name is named after ESPN, it gives it a more fitting name. Although the name change seems good, I believe that the motive behind it is negative because Disney just wants more money. They are doing it so that young athletes watch more ESPN and visit their amusement parks so that they can get more money. That is what Disney is all about.

NBC fills in the margins with notes for a new strategy
de Moraes, Lisa. "NBS fills in the margins with notes for new strategy." The Washington Post. 23 Oct. 2009. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/22/AR2009102204314.html
The new NBC chairman, Jeff Gaspin, has told us that NBC will no longer program to profit margins. This means that NBC won't air shows that are really cheap to produce and can make a profit margin no matter how bad the ratings are. These shows are shows like "The Jay Leno Show" or other late night programing that are cheap to produce and can make a profit no matter what. In the article, it also talks about other shows that have been kept on the air because they produce profit margins. Shows like "Dateline" have been kicking shows off the air because they can produce profit margins. It also talks about how a few years ago, profit margining was called "TV 2.0"
I think this is a really good idea if this plan actaully goes through but lets be honest, TV is a money making machine. I don't think that they'll be able to do this because they won't make enough money to keep other higher budget shows on the air. I think instead of cutting these "profit margin" shows, they should just cut the crappy shows that they air and find shows that are better and more enjoyable.

CBS's Quincy Smith wants to make case against Hulu
Flint, Joe. "CBS's Quincy Smith wants to make case against Hulu." Los Angles Times. 24 Sept. 2009. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2009/09/cbss-quincy-smith-want-to-make-case-against-hulu.html
The CBS interactive CEO, Quincy Smith, sends an email to his staffers criticizing Hulu and that email somehow found its way to the public. In the email, he is quoted to have said, "We should think about how hard it would be to prove that some ratings declines are a result of reckless Hulu streams." Joe Flint, the author of the article, explains that a negative of Hulu is that if it takes the viewer away from the television, the big corporations are losing money. Not just only on lack of viewers watching the show, but the commercials shown during the show. He also explains that online platforms can help promote the different networks. In this way, Hulu is really actually helping these television networks.
I love watching television shows and Hulu is the only place I go if i miss an episode of a television show. Hulu is probably the greatest creation since television shows because it allows the viewer to view the episode at a later date if the viewer misses an episode. I think that Quincy Smith is just acting like a baby because times are changing and more things are starting to revolve around the Internet. He is just whining that CBS won't get as much money because Hulu is allowing viewers to watch episodes at a later time. He should just make a deal with Hulu to show their shows to have CBS make more money.

'Halo 3: ODST' Review
Frushtick, Russ. "'Halo 3: ODST' Review." MTV. 19 Sept. 2009. http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/09/20/halo-3-odst-review/
Russ Frushtick gives us a game review article on the most anticipated Xbox 360 game of 2009. In this article, he gives us some highs and lows of the game. Then in the last paragraph, he gives his final judgement on the game. A high of "Halo 3: ODST" is that it provides a different aspect to the "Halo" experience, you are weak. In this game when you fall from a height, you get hurt, something that hasn't happened since the first "Halo". The new "firefight mode" also gained a positive review. Similar to Gears of War 2's "horde mode," the firefight mode is where you try to stay alive as long as you can as waves of enemies drop in to try and kill you. Where there are high points, there are low points and Frushtick gives them to us. The only things that he found bad with the new installment of "Halo 3" was that the story mode was a little too short and perhaps not quite worth the $60 before taxes. He says that it isn't like they are ripping you off, its just not quite as long as the previous "Halo" games. Overall, Frushtick loved "Halo 3: ODST" for its new multiplayer modes and story line.
As a gamer, I have been waiting for "Halo 3: ODST" to come out for quite some time and I am happy that it received a positive review. Now instead of wasting my money renting the game and then buying it, I can buy it right away. I am especially excited about the firefight mode because I really like "horde" in "Gears of War 2" and I am interested how they made it compared to "horde."The only thing I am a little sketchy about in "Halo 3: ODST" is that you get damaged when you jump from a height. I will miss being able to jump off a mountain not get hurt, but I guess they had to make changes because you are not playing as all mighty Master Chief anymore.

Kanye West Crashes VMA Stage During Taylor Swift's Award Speech
Rodriguez, Jason. "Kanye West Crashes VMA Stage During Taylor Swift's Award Speech." MTV. 13 Sep. 2009. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1621389/20090913/west_kanye.jhtml
The 2009 VMA's is where Kanye West delivered one of his famous rants. Jason Rodriguez gives a summary on how Kanye West sent the teenage country star, Taylor Swift, to tears after he cut her off during her acceptance speech and began talking about how Beyonce had "one of the best videos of all time." Rodriguez tells us that this wasn't the first time he has crashed the VMA's, just 2 years earlier, Kanye West "lost his temper after he was displeased with his performance being set inside a hotel suite rather than on the shows main stage." After Kanye gave the microphone back to Taylor Swift, the crowd began cheering for Taylor Swift and booing Kanye for being disrespectful and extremely rude. Surprisingly, Wale supported Kanye West's rant and said that "You can't blame a man for speaking his mind."
I thought this event was really funny because of its irony. Who on earth would interrupt someone during their acceptance speech? Only rapper Kanye West would do such a thing. After this event, people started creating all sorts of things to parody the event. A new quiz on Facebook was created titled "Where will Kanye interrupt you?" This quiz just has you fill out some questions and then it decides when Kanye West will interrupt you. Some possible interruption times are during childbirth, during your wedding, and some others. I'm glad that Kanye West did this horrible thing because it gives us a lot to joke about.

"Time Traveling For Dummies" -- A physicist's look at time travel in movies
Goldberg, Dave. "Time Traveling For Dummies." Slate. 13 Aug. 2009. http://www.slate.com/id/2225223/
In this article, Dave Goldberg explains the concepts and limits of time travel in Hollywood movies, primarily in the new movie The Time Traveler's Wife. Goldberg breaks the article into 4 different sections and he titles them (1-4) "This is the only universe you've got," "You can't visit any time before your time machine was built," "You can't kill your own Grandfather," You don't have nearly as much free will as you think you do." In each section, he gives us information on time travel such as you can't go back in time further than the time the time machine was invented because you won't have a way back because the time machine hasn't been invented. Because of this rule, it prevents tourists from the future to be in our time.
I really thought this article was interesting because every time I see a movie or show based on time travel, I just think in my head why doesn't the time traveler just go back in time and kill the bad guy. Goldberg explains this rule in the "You can't kill you own Grandfather" section. He says, "So, try as you might, you can't kill your own grandfather, nor can you change history at all. The Terminator learned this the hard way, going back in time to prevent John Connor's birth by killing his mother. When a human travels back in time to protect her, the two fall in love—and she becomes pregnant with … John Connor. Ta-da." Maybe next time I see something on time travel, I will be able to point out the correct parts and the mistakes.

What the ?
So today when I was looking through some news articles, I came upon a particularly strange article. It was about a kid being taken to school in a helicopter on his first day of school to make a good impression on the kids. The media is always telling us that you have to seem cool around other kids by getting dropped off in a Mercedes rather than a mini van. This kid's dad decided to go all out and said screw a car, let's go with a helicopter instead. Supposedly the kid's dad rented the helicopter and now the Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the event. He isn't likely going to be charged with anything because he landed the helicopter in a safe area and landed it according to FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) rules. I thought this was really interesting and so should you.
